Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
If you hate the idea of wearing ugly metal braces, but you are also not exactly thrilled by the idea of living with a bad bite or crooked teeth, you could be a candidate for Invisalign. Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that can work, in most cases, as effectively as metal braces.
The Facts About Metal Braces
Until the 1990s, if you needed to have your teeth orthodontically corrected, metal braces were your only option. Do not think that they are consigned to the dental scrap heap, though – metal braces are still in use because they are very effective, and also somewhat less expensive than clear braces. If cost is not an issue, though, and your bite problem is not so severe that it will only respond to metal braces, you might be a candidate for Invisalign.
The Advantages of Invisalign
The most obvious advantage to Invisalign clear braces is that they are nearly invisible. Unless someone is standing very close to you, chances are that they will not even know you are wearing braces. Of course you could tell them, but you don’t have to.
Another huge advantage is that, unlike metal braces, Invisalign clear braces are not cemented in your mouth. This means that you can take them out at meal time, and you will not have to do without foods that you love, but that could become trapped or even cause damage to metal braces. If you are a lover of thick steaks, crunchy apples and sticky taffy, then you are most likely a candidate for Invisalign.
As previously stated, there are really only two disadvantages to Invisalign – they are a bit more expensive than traditional metal braces, and some dental issues are better treated using metal braces. Your dentist can advise you as to whether you will be a good candidate for Invisalign clear aligners.
