Do you have teeth that are broken, chipped, worn, discolored or damaged in other ways? If that’s the case, then it is probably a safe bet that you are having trouble biting and enjoying the foods that you once loved. You are also probably feeling self-conscious as well.

There is a solution, and if you don’t want to clue people in to the fact that you have had dental work done, then your dental crowns can be a secret between you and your dentist.

Getting dental crowns is easy and painless. Basically, all that is involved is having your mouth numbed up using a local anesthetic so that you won’t feel any pain, and then having your dentist scrape off any decayed or damaged areas. Once that is done, your dentist will take some impressions of your mouth.

In the past, you would have had impressions sent to a lab where your crowns would be created. But now, with the CEREC® procedure, you can actually have your impressions made and your crowns created in a single visit.

CEREC is simply an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and that’s exactly what it means – your restorations are done at chairside, with no need to send impressions to a lab. You really can have a full set of crowns installed in a single visit.

Now, as for durability, you can count on your crowns to perform as well as, if not better than, your natural teeth. They are incredibly strong and durable, and all you have to do to take care of them is brush and floss the way you normally would.

In addition to being durable, crowns won’t look any different than your natural teeth. They will have the same shade and translucency. But even better, they will resist staining. We should offer a caution here – if you are thinking about having your teeth whitened, and also thinking about having crowns, get the whitening treatment first. This is because crowns will not respond to whitening.
